SIDEWALK

Sidewalk is a project rooted in collaborative creativity and community engagement. Positioned at the intersection of art and urban living, this project offers a unique platform for the conceptualization and execution of video performances, specifically designed to foster collaboration between local residents and broader audiences without prior expertise in art. At its core, Sidewalk upholds the idea that everyone has a distinct narrative to share, encouraging participants to delve into their lived experiences and interactions with the urban landscape of Vantaa, thereby using performance art as a channel for individual expression and storytelling.

How can performance art empower individuals and transform public spaces? Can it serve as a tool for creative self-expression within society?

The Sidewalk Project, an initiative by The Other Side, explores these questions by bringing performance art directly to the streets. Performance art challenges traditional boundaries of artistic practice, requiring only the artist’s body, concept, and intent—making it one of the most accessible and inclusive forms of expression. By stepping outside conventional venues, it redefines where art can exist and who can engage with it.

Through workshops, a diverse group of Vantaa residents develop and perform original pieces, drawing from their personal experiences, identities, and social realities. These performances blur the line between art and everyday life, turning public spaces into stages for dialogue, self-expression, and social change.

The Sidewalk Project bridges the gap between art and the everyday, using performance as a means to foster connection, challenge perspectives, and amplify voices within the public sphere.
